ULA Conference: April 21st

leave a comment »

Tomás is reliably informed that the ULA conference  postponed from early February for ‘a month’ will take place in April (Saturday 21st). Apparently the Campaign Against Household And Water Charges will be full steam ahead in March (St Patrick’s day being judgement day on the level of registration, begorragh). Eggs in baskets? Eggs hidden deep in the nest?

Tommy McKearney - A Patient Revolutionary Socialist

We hope soon to carry a review of Tommy’s recently published book

Goodbye Armalite, Hello Ballot Box?

Tommy welcomes the United Left Alliance Project :

Q: In late 2010 the United Left Alliance came together to contest the February 2011 general elections in Ireland, winning five seats. What is you assessment of the ULA?

TM: The ULA is a positive and progressive development. The fact that organizations of the left have come together at any time is good and that these groups are doing so at this time of capitalist crisis is heartening and encouraging. The ULA has also given some needed visibility to the left through its articulate and high-profile spokespersons such as Richard Boyd Barrett and Joe Higgins.

Asked about Ed Moloney’s “Voices From the Grave” and the British state attack on the Boston College Belfast Project, Tommy says : Read the rest of this entry »

Louis Proyect has delivered another very interesting post on organisation at his Unrepentant Marxist site. It’s a long article from Dan DiMaggio a US activist who was until recently a member of Socialist Alternative, the US affiliate of the Socialist Party’s international, the CWI.

Some exchange of thoughts between independents on the forthcoming ULA conference on 4th February has begun over at:

As an aid to discussion among independents in the lead up the ULA conference on 4th February here are some articles on the ULA from independent activists associated with CIL (the – perhaps finally defunct? – Campaign for an Independent Left):

Proposal for a Left Unity (ie ULA-related) Blogging Network.

Proposal for a Left Unity (ie ULA-related) Blogging Network.http://weareragbags.wordpress.com/20…dest-proposal/ & comments

A very loose pooling together, or unionising, of United Left Alliance related blogposts.

Every time a ULA-related post is published, it can be republished on a central distributing facebook page and/twitter. This way, nation-wide, regular members can part-take in policy development on a horizontal level.

We would encourage anyone and everyone to start a blog on whichever aspect of the United Left Alliance that interests you most. Be that the general development, or more specifically on policy development. ie “United Left Alliance – Ecology Policy Blog”.
