Could President Trump get coronavirus from having shaken hands or made selfies or inappropriately groped someone at CPAC?

The White House said earlier Saturday in a statement that it was aware of an individual testing positive for coronavirus after attending the CPAC conference.
“At this time there is no indication that either President Trump or Vice President Pence met with or were in close proximity to the attendee. The President’s physician and United States Secret Service have been working closely with White House Staff and various agencies to ensure every precaution is taken to keep the First Family and the entire White House Complex safe and healthy,” according to the White House.
The ACU noted that it has been in contact with the state of Maryland’s health department and would follow guidance from health experts.
“The exposure occurred previous to the conference. A New Jersey hospital tested the person, and CDC confirmed the positive result,” the ACU said in a statement. “The individual is under the care of medical professionals in the state of New Jersey, and has been quarantined.”
“Our children, spouses, extended family, and friends attended CPAC. During this time, we need to remain calm, listen to our health care professionals, and support each other. We send this message in that spirit,” the group said.

  • Corona virus: government must act to restrict spread and protect incomes

“On foot of the briefing to health workers circulated by the Deputy Dean of the RCSI, Samuel McConkey, I’m calling for urgent action by the government,” said Deputy Paul Murphy.

“This briefing is a sharp warning of the potential number of deaths from the Corona virus. The government needs to act decisively now to restrict the spread. The RCSI advice is to copy what has been done in China – which our government is nowhere near doing.

“The first step is to ensure people can self-isolate by providing full sick-pay for anyone who needs to stay at home because they are ill or they need to care for others – with state support for small firms, based upon proven need. Health and care workers in particular need immediate support and full sick pay: end the six day wait.

“All big public gatherings which present a danger of spread of infection should be cancelled, including St Patrick’s Day parades, sports and large social events. Non-essential travel should stop. Home schooling should be arranged for schools and universities – with support for childcare – and working from home should happen where possible.

“Free hand sanitizer should be provided in public buildings and spaces – and at all workplaces, shops and public transport. There must be a clamp-down on price gouging of sanitizer and soap..

“In order to ensure access to ICU isolation facilities, space for non-infectious patients should be requisitioned from private hospitals.

“While the medical advice on personal hygiene should be acted on by everyone, this is a much bigger issue and the government must act before worst-case scenarios come into play.”

Coronavirus in Ireland: challenging misinformation and offering solutions – Independent Left

Donald Trump, for example, has twice explained to the world that the threat of coronavirus will ‘go away’ in April with warmer weather. He’s said that life will return to normal after the spike and that the media have been exaggerating how dangerous the virus is.

And in their own way, the caretaker Irish government have been failing us. Their theme is ‘don’t panic’. Well, yes, panic wouldn’t help the situation. But is it panicking to want to know where the virus has been present and what measures are being taken to prevent it spreading? As the case of the student from Scoil Chaitríona shows, Fine Gael have a strategy of keeping detailed information out of the public domain as much as possible and assuring us that no special measures are needed.

This approach is creating panic rather than ending it. The less we know, the more we speculate and rumours (not without foundation in respect to the Mater hospital, but made up in other instances) of other possible cases fly around social media. Crucially, too, lives will be lost if the message goes out – as it did this morning on RTÉ’s panel discussion – that public concern about the coronavirus was massively exaggerated and we should carry on as normal. We shouldn’t even cancel travel plans to centres of infection like northern Italy.

In Dublin Bay North, as elsewhere, at first it seemed as though the socialist voice of the working class was going to also be swept away by the growth of the Sinn Féin vote. The Green vote too, might have been a challenge for socialists (although it was more of a challenge for Labour and other middle-ground and middle class parties). But as the counts went on, the transfers from Sinn Féin were strongly to the left, much more so than had been anticipated, although there were some losses to the presence of radical socialists in the Dáil and as activists with the advantages that being a TD brings to helping organise campaigns. We were sorry to see Ruth Coppinger and Séamus Healy lose their seats but delighted that after a difficult looking start, on the whole, the socialist left held their ground. In fact, we should have gained a seat in Dublin Bay North and at the expense of Seán Haughey of Fianna Fáil, who before the election had been a twenty-to-one favourite.

Every Dublin Government since the foundation of the Irish State in 1921 has been run by either Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael. In years to come, tell them you were part of history – On the streets for a Left Government : Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, 1.00pm, March 7 2020.

Today saw an important development in the fight for an alternative government, excluding Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. RISE and People Before Profit have come together with three other left-wing TDs, Joan Collins, Catherine Connolly and Thomas Pringle, to negotiate together for an alternative government to be formed. We have come up with a common political programme, which amongst many other things includes a rent freeze and rent controls to bring rents down, a return of the pension age to 65, pay equality for all public sector workers, an increase in the minimum wage to €15 and free, green and frequent public transport as part of a plan to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030.

Establishment TDs and media commentators have trotted out the phrase that the first rule of politics is to know how to count! Finn summarised the main features of the result :

“At a time when left parties in Europe have been losing ground to their rivals on the Right and Centre, the Irish election bucked the trend. Whatever Sinn Féin does next, this was clearly a left-wing vote. The exit poll showed that health and housing were by far the most important issues for voters. [1] Two-thirds wanted investment in public services to be prioritized over tax cuts. 31 percent agreed with the statement that Ireland “needs a radical change in direction”. It’s possible that this opportunity for change will be squandered. But right now, the momentum in Irish politics is with the Left, and the traditional conservative parties are on the back foot. Close to 30 countries and territories are affected. The expansion of the Covid-19 coronavirus is therefore international, although uneven across continents and regions. A Very Disturbing Court Case in Dublin – Blaming A Woman Called Bernadette Scully

A very disturbing court case that brings to the surface an Irish state system blindly pursuing a vendetta against a woman who could not beat insurmountable odds trying to care for her profoundly disabled daughter.
Quality of life matters more than Quantity, mere pointless existence; but a nasty morality mafia, incubated deep within the foundations of partitioned 26 County Ireland, is kept going by an ideology blaming women, and it thrives in the private nursing home industry where plenty of ugly profit can be harvested.
“She said ‘her little lips went blue’ when she gave her the final syringe.
“I’m not sure how long it took. It seemed like an eternity,” she said.
“My hands were shaking,” she said. “I took her up in my arms and she died in my arms.”
She was asked what her aim was in giving the final dose. “To stop the fit,” she said.
“Did you know deep down what the probable outcome was?” she was asked.
“I would say no, not at the time,” she replied, adding that she had been panicked.
Extreme pain
It was suggested she was as low as she had ever been that morning, that Emily was living in extreme pain, and that she had made a conscious decision to take them both out of this world.
The court has already heard that Ms Scully made two suicide attempts that day.
“I did not make any conscious decision to take Emily out of this world,” she replied.
“I did make a conscious decision after Emily died to take myself out of this world.”
The trial continues before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury of seven women and five men.”

Vote “NO” to Croke Park 2. Defend Education. Defend Public Services.

Colleagues,

A grass-roots rally of public servants in the education sector will take place in the Gresham Hotel Dublin at 12:00 on this Saturday 9th March 2013.

The focuses of the rally will be on:

  • securing a “NO” vote to Croke Park 2 in as many unions as possible
  • the need for unity amongst all public servants in the face of the on-going attacks on us, and
  • the way forward to better representation and mobilisation of public servants
  • sending a message to our unions, to ICTU and to the Government that this so-called agreement will not be accepted

This rally is not called by the Executive of any union and has absolutely nothing to do with ICTU, which clearly no longer represents public servants at all.

Please attend and advertise the rally to all other public servants you know, both within the Education Sector and outside it: All public servants are very welcome to come along.

The intention is to show our own union leadership and ICTU that in the absence of representation from them, we can and will mobilise ourselves.

We urge you to attend.
