May 7 2026 Elections in Wales Scotland and England – Promising Predictions from the Celtic Nations – and a Horror Story from England.
Wales :
1 way or another, if these numbers are right, Wales is headed for a left-wing majority at the May 7 Senedd elections. A Plaid Cymru/Labour/Green coalition would have 56 seats, a healthy majority of 16 against the vile racist right Reform-Cons. it’s a proportional representation election.

Scotland :
If these numbers are right, the Scottish National party will win the May 7 Scottish parliament election, either with a majority over all other parties, or in coalition with the Greens. The vile racist far-right coalition Reform-Cons will only get 23 seats out of 129.

London :
The story here is not too bad as the Green party (which has a left-wing profile compared with the dismal Labour party Starmer right-wing outfit) seems to have made very significant strides forward, The problem with London is that, unlike Wales and Scotland, the electoral system is “first past the post”, and not proportional like Wales and Scotland. So, seat numbers are very difficult to predict.

Surveys of Westminster voting intentions – remember this system is the anti-democratic non-proportional first past the past system – indicates that a vile right-racist Reform-Cons coalition could take over the government with a disproportionately huge majority, out of sync with their share of the state-wide vote. The predicted result is a horror-story.

It is pretty certain that the May 7 elections will be bad for Labour Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who seems unable to detach himself from a scandal surrounding the former British ambassador to Trump’s White House in Washington DC, Peter Mandelson.
One excellent writer, Dave Kellaway, offers an interesting perspective for the left active within the British state :
Putting forward a left alternative
Dave Kellaway
Any new leadership challenge will open up a political debate about the direction of the Labour government that the Greens and the whole left should get involved in. Not because we have any great illusions in Rayner or Burnham but because it gives us an opportunity to put forward policies that would radically solve the cost of living crisis by attacking the wealth and power of capital. We could challenge the soft left’s timidity and woeful record in defending the democratic right to protest, to jury trials and in supporting migrants and refugees. We can outline a programme that can achieve net zero and save mother earth. The audience for such discussion will be broadened if there is a leadership challenge.
Labour Together’s Fraud
Socialists in Ireland and elsewhere should do everything possible to support the fighting left active in the disintegrating British state of Wales, England, Scotland, and a partitioned bit of Ireland (this state is usually called the United Kingdom (UK) – a serious misnomer these days!).
