Carola Rackete, a left-wing German Member of the European Parliament (MEP) with a high profile, supports Ukrainian resistance against Russian Imperialism.
Carola Rackete is a consistent anti-imperialist and is also an ecosocialist activist. Here is Carola’s Wikipedia entry :
Rackete participated in several research expeditions to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean and is co-founder of the Antarctic Rights initiative. She also supported the Extinction Rebellion movement and took part in forest protests in Sweden, as well as the occupations of the Hambach Forest and the Dannenrod Forest in Germany. Between 2016 and 2019, she occasionally volunteered for non-governmental sea rescue organisations in the Mediterranean.[2] In June 2019, she was arrested for docking a migrant rescue vessel without authorization in the port of Lampedusa, Italy. The custodial judge considered Rackete’s actions as justified because she had a duty to save lives at sea and ruled that Rackete should not have been arrested. In 2021, the pending investigation was formally dismissed, since the state prosecutor didn‘t see reason to proceed to court.[3]
A newspaper acting as the mouthpiece of Vladimir Putin’s Russian imperialism (Junge Welt) launched a vicious campaign against Carola Rackete, who, as a leftist member of the EU parliament, agreed to a resolution supporting the Ukrainian resistance.
This resolution calls for :
1. Supply of enough ammunition to Ukraine and authorization of Ukrainian attacks on military infrastructure in Russia. (Ukraine is not allowed to attack rocket launchers in Russia with weapons of NATO countries so far and cannot defend itself effectively against bomb hail)
2. Enforcement and expansion of military sanctions against Russia and those who support Russia.
3. Confiscation of Russian state assets to compensate Ukraine for the destruction. Complete resolution here:
Legitimate and Illegitimate responses to an EU parliament resolution on Ukraine
In a solidarity, ecological and emancipatory perspective, it is legitimate to agree or abstain from this resolution (“Sustaining financial and military support for Ukraine by EU Member States”) A lot of leftists did this.
How did the members of the faction “The Left” vote?
Left-wing representatives from the Nordic countries voted for a resolution; also representatives from the Netherlands, Germany and France (France Insoumise).
How can Ukrainian wage-earners resist Russian attacks?
Those individuals – also in Die Linke and Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung – who are now maliciously attacking Carola Rackete in a defamatory manner – have no answer to how Ukrainian wage earners can resist the Russian attack on their society. A Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung employee even thinks that Carola Rackete is an egg with a hawk from “Team World War” in it.
These slanderous attacks against @CaroRackete do not serve peace, but ultimately play into the hands of the Putin regime’s extortion attempt and they are water on the mills of the local racist, national conservatives and fascists.
Carola Rackete has proven sufficiently in recent years that she resolutely and effectively opposes fascist, racist and national conservative forces. She has saved many people from the worst threats.
Which of the evil scribblers has already successfully asserted himself against a racist interior minister and his repressive forces? Remembering #SeaWatch3 and the threats of #Salvini in 2019.
It is right to oppose the wave of reshuffling between NATO and EU states. It is credible to do it when you stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian resistance against the existential threat posed by Russian imperialism.

That’s why it is right to support Ukraine, that’s why you have to oppose weapons exports to other countries that attack their own and neighboring peoples (e.g. Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia).
That is why the arms industry must be socialized to democratically control and determine their products; finally to rebuild in transnationally coordinated or. to transform into a socially and ecologically sensible industry.
Junge Welt’s (Young World’s) politics are retro-Stalinist. It appeals to readers who find it very difficult to accept real world events : The Soviet Union died in 1991.
It is not coming back.
We need to accept that the worst features of the dead ☠️ USSR have been imported into a new capitalist-imperialist-genocidal monster headed by Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. The good bits have been discarded and killed off permanently. Think of Stephen King’s horror story Pet Sematary :
A well-tended path leads to a pet cemetery (misspelled “sematary” on the sign) where the children of the town bury their deceased animals.
A cat called Church dies, then :
after Church is run over outside his home around Thanksgiving. Rachel and the kids are visiting Rachel’s parents in Chicago, but Louis frets over breaking the bad news to Ellie. Sympathizing with Louis, Jud takes him to the “sematary”, supposedly to bury Church. But instead of stopping there, Jud leads Louis farther on to “the real cemetery”: an ancient burial ground that was once used by the Miꞌkmaq Tribe. There, Louis buries the cat on Jud’s instruction. The next afternoon, Church returns home; the usually vibrant and lively cat now acts ornery and, in Louis’s words, “a little dead”. Church hunts for mice and birds, ripping them apart without eating them. He also smells so bad that Ellie no longer wants him in her room at night. Jud confirms that Church has been resurrected and that Jud himself once buried his dog there when he was younger. Louis, deeply disturbed, begins to wish that he had not buried Church there.
